I talked to Sarah on the phone the night before her wedding to nail down a few last-minute details, and I could hear the excitement in her voice. We talked about a meeting point and she said, “Well, I shouldn’t be too hard to find…I’ll be the one hanging out in the capitol in the white dress!” She was of course accurate about that 🙂 I did find Sarah hanging out in her beautiful white wedding dress inside the capitol rotunda with her mom — that same laid back humor and excitement written all over her face. I was equally excited to be a part of her and Emile’s beautiful, intimate wedding ceremony at the state capitol building in Madison, on a chilly Sunday morning in February.
We spent the first part of the morning taking pictures inside the capitol. My absolute favorite part of the morning was when I was taking bridal portraits of Sarah on one of the staircases. She had her back turned towards me, and a young woman snuck up next to me, beaming at Sarah and her dress. She said, “She doesn’t know I’m here!” It was Sarah’s sister. She apparently told Sarah she couldn’t make it to the ceremony, with every intention of making it. Perfect timing! She snuck up on the staircase behind Sarah, who had absolutely no idea. Sarah and Emile’s ceremony took place in the capitol rotunda in front of 10 of their closest family and friends (and one sleepy kiddo!). We ventured into the chilly Wisconsin air afterwards, and took pictures of the newly married couple in front of the beautiful architecture of the capitol. (Not to mention how much I LOVE the white backdrop of the capitol, especially paired with Emile’s blue suit — bringing our attention right to the beautiful couple). I told Sarah that she wouldn’t even be able to tell how cold it was in the pictures. I don’t think she believed me at the time, but I can’t tell!
The new husband and wife and their guests finished the day with a celebration and lunch at the Edgewater Hotel in downtown Madison. They told me they plan to have a big celebration next year — I can only imagine what a blast that will be! Here are just some of my favorites from the day.
