Olivia loves to move. She’s walking but still unstable, so she gets up, takes a few steps, plops down on the ground, and gets back up again. When she really wants to get somewhere, she crawls….fast! Especially when veggie straws are dangling from mom’s hand in the distance. I learned that Olivia is known for her serious faces. She is a very happy baby, but saved the big smiles for airplanes and kisses from mom and dad. She loved to wave at everyone — or even at no one. I learned that she loves to see herself in the back of the camera. I learned that she’s a daddy’s girl, but mom had the most success getting her to laugh by jumping around behind the camera. I also learned, along with mom and dad, that Olivia loves sucking on grapefruit and lemon (yes, lemon).
Olivia turns one next week, and to celebrate, we did an epic rainbow unicorn cake smash at South Park in Oshkosh! We knew the second Olivia spotted the cake. She didn’t bother with trying to walk to it…She took off in an all-out sprinting crawl. The top part of the cake, from Tamara’s the Cake Guru in Oshkosh, was everything we could have asked for. Sparkly decorations almost too beautiful to be smashed. But when Olivia went all in, the cake burst open with bright-colored rainbow insides, and it was awesome in every way! That cake was EV.ERY.WHERE.
I met Olivia’s mom eight years ago when we had our first college tennis season together at UW Oshkosh. If you would have told me then that I would be photographing her daughter’s cake smash in eight years, I would have thought you were crazy! But boy am I glad that this is where life has brought us! Capturing Olivia’s precious personality and the bond she has with her mom and dad just shy of one year was such a blessing. I am so excited to watch this little girl grow!
