Erin and Gannon had an intimate Madison capitol wedding in the state capitol building in December!

You all know how much I love taking pictures around the capitol building, but I am just as in love with the photos we took IN it too! From the looks of it, you would almost think we rented out the entire capitol building and square for their photos!

We lucked out with the BEST snowfall you could ask for (after an entire day of December rain, I might add). I know the word “dreamy” gets used a lot in photography, but yep. Straight out of a winter dream.

A Madison capitol wedding ceremony

Erin and Gannon held the wedding ceremony, with a judge, on the second floor of the Rotunda. Their immediate families surrounded them as they said “I do”. Since it was right before Christmas, we were lucky to have the beautiful (and giant, I might add) Christmas tree as a backdrop. Talk about dreamy holiday bokeh!

We took some family photos right after the ceremony, and then walked around the capitol for couples portraits. We also spent a little extra time with Erin for some bridal portraits. How could we not!? I love, love her bridal portraits on the stairs inside the capitol building!

Outdoor winter wedding photos

Then we braved the cold for a while for the most beautiful winter scene we could imagine!

Erin and Gannon’s jeweler, Soha Diamond Co, was kind enough to invite us over to his building on the Capitol Square, and pointed out a “secret” balcony that gave us an incredible view of the capitol!

To top it off, State Street was almost empty and decorated for the holidays. It made for a perfect little stroll to end our portrait time.

These two are throwing a bigger destination wedding in 2024, but they didn’t want to wait that long to be married. I can’t blame them, and I love that they made this day so intimate and unique!

Enjoy some of my favorites of their downtown Madison wedding! Okay, a lot of them 🙂
